Eclectic Mix Gallery Wall

I'm a huge fan of using gallery walls to bring personality, warmth, and character into a home! Over the years, I've installed more than 100 gallery walls for local clients, and it's truly one of my favorite ways to transform a space.

Welcome to my Gallery Wall Series! In each post, I'll help you discover the perfect gallery wall style to match your space — and showcase your unique personality.

An eclectic gallery wall is all about mixing things up in a way that feels true to you. You can go the deeply personal route, combining traditional art prints with meaningful, non-art elements like keepsakes, mementos, or anything that reflects your passions and experiences. It’s a great way to create a display that feels rich with personality and tells your story.

Or, you can take a more playful approach, mixing classic prints with bold colours, quirky finds, fun patterns, and unexpected textures. In this version, anything goes! It’s all about curating a vibrant, eye-catching wall that sparks joy and shows off your creative side.

Spacing: An eclectic gallery wall allows for more flexibility with spacing. Later in the guide, I’ll share tips on experimenting with layout. One key step is to first arrange everything on the floor—this helps ensure a balanced and intentional design before hanging.

Art Selection: Eclectic gallery wall are meant to be fun and unique. Not only can you mix and match art prints, you can also add in different elements like:

  ▸ woven baskets
  ▸ decorative plates
  ▸ macramé hangings
  ▸ words/letters
  ▸ mirrors
  ▸ floating shelves
  ▸ vintage keys or hardware
  ▸ maps
  ▸ vinyl records
▸ frames concert tickets or posters

I’ve put together a more detailed list in another blog post, you can check it out here.

Location: An eclectic gallery wall is a great addition to living and dining areas, but it truly shines in kids' rooms. Its playful and creative nature allows for endless possibilities, making it a fun and dynamic focal point.

In the second image, Rachel from This is Our Bliss masterfully combines paintings and sculptures to create a beautifully curated eclectic art wall.

Frames: Eclectic gallery walls allow for plenty of creativity, but thoughtful frame selection is key. Avoid mixing drastically different styles and colours to maintain a cohesive look. A great way to keep the design balanced is to slim, square-shaped frames for a clean and polished finish.

In the image below, Sun Ngo creates a balanced look by mixing different frame styles while keeping most of them simple in black and gold.

In the next image, PopSugar combines various frame shapes, with about half being square-shaped, adding structure to the eclectic arrangement.

In the image below, AntiquesbyPeter combines a mix of artistic styles, colours, and frame sizes, creating a bold and visually dynamic display. The varied arrangement adds personality and charm, making the space feel both curated and effortlessly stylish.

In the next image, my client gathered all the pieces and sought my help in arranging them into a cohesive display. This gallery wall features a balanced mix of neutral framed artwork, decorative accents, and inspiring love sign adds depth and visual interest to the space
