Asymmetrical Trio Gallery Wall

I'm a huge fan of using gallery walls to bring personality, warmth, and character into a home! Over the years, I've installed more than 100 gallery walls for local clients, and it's truly one of my favorite ways to transform a space.

Welcome to my Gallery Wall Series! In each post, I'll help you discover the perfect gallery wall style to match your space — and showcase your unique personality.

A small bare wall is perfect for a gallery wall with an asymmetrically arranged trio of art pieces. The key to a successful trio arrangement is selecting frames that either coordinate or match for a cohesive look.

Art Selection: Select 3 pieces that complement each other in terms of colour, theme, or style.

Frames: Choose frames that complement the colour palette of the images as well as the room’s decor.

Spacing: Space the frames about two inches from each other. Depending on the layout, one gap might need to be a little larger.

Location: Consider placing this trio in areas like beside windows, in kids' rooms, above end tables, or in small hallways for a stylish touch.

In the first image above, Kris from Driven by Decor created a beautiful trio for her dining room, using three different frames while maintaining a cohesive look with soft artwork and a consistent colour palette

The second image above from Norsu Interiors features a trio perfect for a teen’s room. With light frames and simple, muted artwork, the arrangement remains cohesive—even with fun themes like candy and sports.

The final image showcases a charming trio displayed in a set of matching Pottery Barn frames. and black and white photos.

In the third image, West Elm’s designers use a layout that isn’t perfectly symmetrical, yet it maintains a balanced, cohesive feel with matching frames, large mats, and aligned outer edges.
