Summer Front Porch Makeover

I love decorating our front porch for each season, changing up the colours and patterns, and all my favourite things.

The black and white tiles on the steps are sticky vinyl tiles from FloorPops by WallPops. I had purchased them a few years ago to use in my laundry room, but 2 years later they were still in my basement and the idea to use them outside popped into my head. I used construction glue to attach them to the steps and the tiles are easy to cut - just score them with a blade and snap.

The front of my house faces north and barely gets any daytime sun. Which means, when you live in Edmonton, your choices for flowers and shrubs are limited. A few of our bushes have died from lack of sunlight and we’ve had to replace one of our large trees twice. The first year I bought my large pots, I found these cute pink Mandevilla flowers that said partial shade and gave them a try. They grew well and I got so many compliments on them that I buy them every year now!

Another little trick I use to add more colour and save money without worrying about plants dying is using faux plants and greenery to fill out the look.

(What a difference a few months can make. I took the first part of this video in the spring and the last part half 4 months later.)

This year my husband installed a watering system from Rainbird. We never remember to water and I swear the daily automatic watering has made all the difference to our bushes in the front. I’m excited to see how everything grows this year and am already planning my fall porch!
